Samsung recently announced that it's targeting the PC gaming industry with its high-performance 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD), designed to provide impressively fast processing power that will consequently deliver a superior PC gaming experience. According to the company, traditional hard disk drives are expected to be replaced by the faster and more energy-efficient SSD parts, as technology continues to advance and provide users with higher-performance solutions.

“In addition to processing power, advanced graphic cards and high-resolution monitors, gamers want a fast storage drive for reduced loading times and faster game performance,” said Jim Elliott, vice president of memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. “Our 256GB SSD provides much better overall performance than conventional HDDs, as well as longer battery life for the notebook gamer. Clearly, all PC gamers will benefit from the blistering speeds and dazzling photorealism enabled by the Samsung 256GB SSD.”

The development of NAND Flash-based storage technology has led to the release of a series of new SSDs that can provide users with increased performance, lower power requirements and even a more accessible price tag, compared to previous generations of SSDs. Unfortunately, despite the recent developments in the industry, these parts continue to be a commodity for high-end customers and not a choice for mainstream PC users. The Samsung 256GB SSDs are now targeting that specific high-end gaming segment, providing users with increased performance and a higher-quality gaming experience.

The company announced that, as part of an effort to make its SSD technology more accessible to gaming enthusiasts, it would provide SSD-enabled gaming stations at the upcoming World Cyber Games (WCG) event, at the US National Finals. This is an event that is expected to draw an important number of participants and Samsung plans to take advantage of this by encouraging attendees to test their SSD gaming stations.
