Unveiled in the first week of August, MetroPCS's Samsung Admire has just hit shelves and is now available for purchase for $129.99 with the carrier's unlimited plans that start at $50 per month.

MetroPCS stated that the phone will be available on the market in time for the back-to-school promo, in red and gray flavors.

According to the carrier, the phone targets “budget-minded students” and first time Android smartphone users who want a cheap device as their first phone.

Android fans and tinkerers will probably want to avoid the Samsung Admire given its low technical specs.

However, the Admire would make as a great second phone for those who like to joggle with multiple carriers.

Samsung Admire is powered by Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system and comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

"The Samsung Admire is the latest device in our growing Android smartphone lineup and delivers the right set of features at the right price for students as they head back to school. And the best part is that customers will continue to save money year-round with MetroPCS' affordable, unlimited service plans,” said Tom Keys, president and COO, MetroPCS.

Furthermore, the smartphone is equipped with a 800 Mhz processor and features an array of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack with microphone, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

The phone stands 4.6 inches tall, 2.4 inches wide, and is less than 0.5-inch thick. It packs a low amount of internal memory and a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

On related news, as part of the back to school promo, MetroPCS will offer other popular handsets, including the Huawei M835, Samsung Freeform III, Kyocera Torino, Samsung Galaxy Indulge and LG Optimus M at special prices.
