Samsung, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics and portable hard disk drives, has just announced the introduction of two new color options for its line of S-series external hard drives. The Korean company also announced a new 160GB version for its 1.8-inch S1 Mini drive, providing its customers with more options for their external storage requirements. The latest additions join the company's S-series, introduced back in October 2008 in 120GB and 500GB capacities for the 1.8-inch S1 Mini and S2 Portable 2.5-inch drives.

“With an extraordinary capacity for its small footprint, the Samsung S1 series features low power, portability, convenience and eco-friendliness,” said C.H. Lee, vice president, storage sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. “The new 160GB edition also provides convenient backup with ease of handling, featuring an ultra-compact credit-card size casing.”

According to Samsung, the demand for external storage solutions is increasing each day, as users require more space for storing their galleries of personal photos, music, HD movies or other digital content that they need to access on an everyday basis. Among some of the features that have been enabled on Samsung's line of S-series portable hard drives, we must highlight the auto backup one, as well as the support for software based AES-128bit or AES-256bit encryptions. The SafetyKey technology enables users to password protect their files, restricting access to a select few. In addition, the capacity gauge informs the user on the drive's available storage space.

Said to be already shipping, Samsung's latest Sweet Pink and Ocean Blue color options for the S-series external drives are expected to become globally available through retail channels by the end of June. Unfortunately, the company hasn't detailed the pricing of its latest S-series drives, but we should know more by the end of this month.
