Back in May, wireless carrier U.S. Cellular announced plans to start offering the Android-based Samsung Acclaim to its users come July, but it did not offer specific details on the actual release date or the pricing of the device. While the price tag at which Samsung Acclaim would be available hasn't been announced yet, the carrier did unveil that the new mobile phone would be put on sale on its network on July 9.

“It's official! The Android-powered Samsung Acclaim is arriving in stores July 9, 2010! To show our appreciation to our Facebook fans we are giving current U.S. Cellular customers (only customers who established an account prior to 5/31/10 are eligible) a chance to win one of ten Samsung Acclaim phones,” is what the wireless operator announced via its Facebook page not too long ago.

Powered by Google's Android 2.1 operating system, the new Samsung Acclaim should arrive on shelves with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts an HVGA resolution, coupled with a full QWERTY keyboard. Unfortunately, no further details on the specifications list of the new device emerged, but since its launch date is quite near, it shouldn't be long before all the necessary info arrives.

In the meantime, we should say a few words on another Android-based mobile phone the wireless carrier said it would bring to the US market this summer, the HTC Desire. It seems that the release date for this handset has been pushed back a little, and that the operator's customers won't be able to benefit from its features at least until August, though the company hasn't announced anything official on this.

One way or the other, US Cellular seems set to make a wide range of appealing handsets available for its users too, and Samsung Acclaim and HTC Desire are only two such phones. Stay tuned for more info on the pricing and specifications list of Samsung Acclaim at the wireless carrier.
