Wireless carrier US Cellular has promised the release of a series of Android-based mobile phones on its airwaves during the second half of the ongoing year, and the first of them has already arrived, the Samsung Acclaim. Starting with July 9, US Cellular's customers have the possibility to try out the new Android handset on their operator's airwaves, while paying $99.95 for it on a contract.

The new Samsung Acclaim arrived at U.S. Cellular with Google's Android 2.1 operating system on board, and with a nice series of features that should appeal a lot to the wireless operator's users. Among them, we can count the a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts a HVGA resolution, which is complemented by a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard for easy typing.

The specifications list of the new Android-based mobile phone also includes a 3-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and video recording capabilities, along with expanded connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and VPN (Virtual Private Network), or a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, with a GB card included in the package.

At the same time, the new device comes with support for social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, offering users the possibility to stay in touch with friends and family at all times. Not to mention that it supports text, picture and video messaging, along with corporate and personal email. Internet browsing and application download and installation (via the Andorid Market) are other capabilities of the new device.

The Samsung Acclaim hits US Cellular with support for a series of Google Mobile services too, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Goggles and Google Maps with navigation. The carrier's customers would find the phone on sale on the carrier's website here. The $99.95 price tag sported by Acclaim is available with a two-year service agreement on a qualifying plan.
