Owners of the Samsung ATIV S smartphone on the network of Canadian wireless carrier Rogers will be happy to learn that the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 operating system upgrade will be released to them on February 15, 2014.

The operator has officially announced this on its support website, after listing the update as coming soon over the past several weeks.

As MobileSyrup notes, users will be provided with a nice range of enhancements as part of the new update, including improved accessibility, a driving mode, Internet sharing capabilities, and more.

With the new Driving Mode on their phones, users will enjoy less incoming calls and text messages, which will allow them to focus on the road.

At the same time, the update brings screen orientation lock, which means that users can make sure that the orientation of their screen does not change when they are moving their phone around while reading something on it.

Following the installation of Windows Phone 8 GDR3, Samsung ATIV S owners will also be able to use the phone’s cellular data connection to access the Internet from Microsoft Windows 8.1 devices, after pairing them over Bluetooth.

Other changes in the new platform release include:

- Accessibility. We’ve made several improvements for customers who are visually impaired. - Storage. Now you can easily free up storage space on your phone and manage temporary files. New categories show what’s taking up space. - Wi-Fi. Start preserving cellular data on your phone right out of the box—you can now connect to Wi-Fi during set up. - Bluetooth. Several fixes were made to address known issues, and improvements were made to connection quality for Bluetooth accessories. - Ringtones. Do more with ringtones now. Assign ringtones for text messages, so you’ll know who’s texting you without even looking. Use your custom ringtones for more things—text messages, instant messages, emails, voicemail, and reminders. - App switcher. Don’t look back. Now you can use the App switcher to quickly close apps when you’re finished with them.

There are only two days left until the update starts arriving on Samsung ATIV S devices at Rogers, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
