The ATIV S is a two-year-old Windows Phone handset that hasn't even received the latest updates from Microsoft. However, the smartphone is now on Windows Phone 8.1.1, which has been delivered to many for quite a while.

There's no confirmation that this particular device with get further update, but even if Microsoft has no plans to offer ATIV S owners the chance to upgrade to Windows 10 for Phones, someone has found a way to put the new version of the operating system into the smartphone.

Keep in mind that Windows 10 for Phones hasn't been released yet, but Microsoft launched a technical preview that is currently available only on six Lumia models.

However, this is about to change as the Redmond-based company confirmed additional smartphones will be supported in the next version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview.

Unfortunately, there's no telling whether or not Samsung ATIV S will be among the new handsets that will make it to the list of supported Windows 10 for Phone Technical Preview smartphones.

That being said, WMPoweruser reports the folks over at WindowsMania have been able to hack the ATIV S to run the technical preview of Windows 10 for Phones.

At first, the build did not work too well due to some touch driver issues, but they have been able to address them and Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview now runs smoothly on Samsung ATIV S.

They promised they would offer a set of step-by-step instructions on how to make the technical preview run on the Samsung ATIV S, but there's no mention of timing.
