The only Windows Phone 8 handset announced by Samsung, the Ativ S has just been confirmed in India. According to Samsung India, the smartphone will hit shelves as soon as Microsoft officially unveils Windows Phone 8 platform on October 26.

This seems surprisingly early, as previous rumors suggested Samsung wouldn’t be able to launch its Ativ S smartphone until late November.

Well, it looks like Windows Phone fans in India will be among the first to be offered the chance to purchase the Samsung Ativ S smartphone.

For the time being, no details on pricing options are available, but Samsung is likely to make an announcement soon after Windows Phone 8 goes official.

Currently, Ezoneonline and Infibeam retailers are listing the Ativ S, but no price tag has been attached to it.

Samsung Ativ S is expected to arrive in two different storage options, 16 and 32GB. The phone embeds a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor build on Krait architecture, 1GB of RAM and Adreno 225 graphics processing unit.

Aside 16/32GB of internal memory, users will be able expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The Ativ S comes with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

Another strong point of the Ativ S is the stunning 4.8-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

Samsung’s Ativ S will come pre-loaded with several apps and services, such as ChatOn instant messaging service, Samsung Hubs Music, Photo Editor and Mini Diary.

Connectivity features such as NFC (Near Field Communication), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi with Tap&Send and GPS will be included as well. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
