Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for the launch of a new Windows Phone 8-based smartphone on its network, the Samsung ATIV Odyssey, and has published a new video to showcase some of the main features of the device.

The handset was officially mentioned back in October, when Verizon announced plans to add Windows Phone 8 devices to its offering, and was meant to land on shelves before the end of 2012.

However, the phone was pushed back by about a month, and we’ll be able to see it on shelves only at the end of January, just as the wireless carrier confirmed recently.

Samsung ATIV Odyssey will hit the market with a 4-inch Super AMOLED Display (WVGA 800×480), as well as with a 1.5GHz processor inside, paired with 1GB of RAM.

Furthermore, it will sport 8 GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of additional storage space, as well as a 2100 mAh battery.

The mobile phone’s specs list also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and full HD 1080p video recording capabilities, complemented by a front camera for making video calls while on the move.

It also sports Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth, support for Verizon’s networks, and is Global Ready, meaning that users can enjoy its calling and email capabilities in over 220 countries around the world.

As WMPoweruser notes, the video embedded below presents some of the custom applications that Samsung themselves have loaded on the this Windows Phone 8 smartphone, including:

- Photo Editor – Edit photos (crop, rotate, resize, etc.) and adjust colors (contrast, RGB and hue) instantly; users can also add effects such as Pop Art, gray-scale, red eye correction and add decorations that include frames, stickers, etc. and share on Facebook, Picasa and Photobucket. - Mini Diary – Contains daily activities, photos and drawings; users can share their diary via social channels including Facebook, email, Picasa and Photobucket; users can back up and store information in the free cloud service SkyDrive. - Now – Provides weather, news, stock and currency updates instantly

Verizon and Samsung took the wraps off ATIV Odyssey at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, and are expected to bring it to shelves starting with this week, on January 24.
