14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch pegged for IFA 2014 is making headlines across the web, but that’s not all the company might be bringing to Berlin in a week or so.
As Notebook Italia brings to our attention, a new ultraslim notebook might be in the works in the development labs at Samsung. Hopefully, we’re talking more than development and Sammy will be able to show us the new lappy at IFA.
The laptop was spotted in the KIPRIS database in a duo of patents outlining concept design. The first one was filed back in February, while the second is most likely a rectification of the latter, bringing about minor changes and was recorded in June.
The new laptop seems to be inheriting the look of the stylish ATIV Book 9 Style, arriving with a polycarbonate shell and a clean white paint job.
What stands out immediately is the super sleek figure of the laptop. We are not given any specifics but the new ATIV could belong to the Ultrabook range if anything.
By analyzing the images in detail, we have to say the ultraslim device could actually be a 2-in-1 hybrid that can be used as tablet and laptop. As for the display, it could be of the 11-inch to 13-inch variety, we’re not really sure.
The patent doesn't disclose a name for the product, so what shall we call this new sleek device? Since Samsung appears to be constantly changing the nomenclature of its laptops, we could call the newcomer the ATIV Book S (from slim?).
The S could also be an indicative of another theory we have. The Galaxy Tab S tablets with AMOLED displays are the slimmest in Samsung’s portfolio, so maybe, just maybe, the new notebook will come with an AMOLED display? It could be a real possibility.
So to wrap things up, we could expect a lot of goodies to come out of Samsung at the IFA 2014 trade show. For starters, we’re certainly going to witness the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 4 flagship smartphone and of the Gear 3 smartwatch (of Gear Solo – the wearable with standalone phoning capabilities).
On top of that, Samsung might also surprise us with its round smartwatch, although this is highly unlikely.
The new mirrorless Galaxy NX1 camera and the company’s VR headset are also pegged for the event, so stay tuned if you don’t want to miss any announcements.
