The industry has reached a point where the line between various product types are becoming blurry, and it seems that HDTVs and PC monitors have begun to lose more and more of what differentiates between them, as is shown by the Samsung 30 and 90 Series of MFMs (multi-function monitors).

Basically, what Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation) did was bring out a number of monitors with HDTV features.

Their main asset is that they can act both as small TVs (21.4 to 24 inches) as well as PC monitors at the very same time.

This is possible because not only do they support the Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, but they feature PiP (Picture in Picture).

The other aspect that enables this usability is that all of them have not one, but two HDMI inputs, essentially allowing multiple HD devices, video game consoles, PCs, Blu-ray players etc.

The 30 Series includes three models, namely the B2230HD, the B23330HD and the B2430HD, each with screen sizes of 21.5 inches, 23 inches and 24 inches, respectively.

These three have a DCR (dynamic contrast ratio) of 70,000:1, a response time of 5ms. Dolby Digital plus sound with 3W built-in stereo speakers and remote controls.

The 90 Series is represented by the 24-inch FX2490HD, which shares most of the 30 Series' specifications, except for the fact that it has 5W speakers and a DCR of 5,000,000:1.

“People are looking to do more in smaller areas and multi-function monitors are a great way to maximize the functionality of a single device,” said Young Bae, director of display marketing Samsung Enterprise Business Division.

“Samsung continues to expand our multi-function offerings and these two new lines – the 30 and 90 series – provide a new range of options and value for our customers,” he added.

The 30 Series are available at $269.99 - $329.99, whereas the 90 Series model will sell next month, at $419.99
