Samsung has just announced that its popular 470 series solid state drives will soon be available with a new retail package that adds a series of hardware components as well as a full copy of the Norton Ghost 15.0 software.

This can be used to quickly migrate data from the hard drive to the SSD, or for backing up and recovering the information stored on the computer's disks.

The Samsung 470 series of solid state drives is comprised out of three models, than span in capacity from 64GB to 256GB and all the models use the 2.5-inch form factor.

These are based on a Samsung-designed SATA 3Gbps controller that is seconded by 256MB of DDR2-667 cache memory (split into two 128MB) and by Samsung-branded NAND Flash cells.

According to the company, this configuration enables 470 series SSDs to reach sequential read speeds of up to 250MB/s, while write speeds are estimated at 220MB/s.

“The new Samsung SSD 470 series is top-notch in terms of user convenience in the industry. I believe it will provide a new level of consumer satisfaction,” said Stefanie Summerfield, Head of Business Development for Samsung Memory.

“Samsung’s included software solutions significantly reduce the difficulty of data migration and management for novice users.

“We are serious about this industry and will play hard to expand our market share in the SSD market,” she added.

Apart from the full copy of the Norton Ghost 15.0 software, the new retail package also includes a series of connecting cables and adjustable mounting Brackets.

Samsung hasn't provided a firm release date for its new SSD bundle, but it did state that this version will arrive by the end of this month. The current prices of the 64GB, 128GB and 256GB Samsung 470 series SSDs are set at $119.99, $229.99 and $459.99, respectively.
