Samsung has unveiled some new colors for its Omnia Windows Mobile (WM) PDA-phone, just in time for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations. The device will sport the already known black and white versions, aside from which the company also announced a red model, expected to appeal to many Chinese as they associate the color with good luck for the New Year.

According to the news on the web, Samsung has also reduced the prices of its Omnia WM device. Thus, the 8GB version is now reported to go on sale for $828 instead of $928 as it did before. Moreover, the 16GB is stated to cost only $928, down from the previous $1,098 price tag. As for the red model, it is expected to start selling at the end of this month, but those willing to acquire the device will only be offered an 8GB model.

In related news, we learn that the Korean chaebol has in the end managed to release the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for its SGH-i780 device. The update was expected to come to users sometime in the third quarter of last year, but the fact that the company has finally released it can still be considered good news.

The owners of a SGH-i780 can have their handsets upgraded at Samsung's service centers. Nevertheless, they should know that all data and information stored on the phone will be wiped out, so a backup should be performed before going to the service. At the same time, those willing to acquire a brand new SGH-i780 should know that the company lowered its price to $498, which is not too much for a fully-featured HSDPA WM6.1 phone.

The news reports also state that Samsung has confirmed the changes for Singapore, but other countries in Asia Pacific may receive them at different times. Users can find out more on this by calling their local Samsung customer service.
