Samsung introduced SyncMaster 305T, a widescreen, high-resolution 30-inch LCD monitor. The unit features a 16:10 widescreen design and 2,560 x 1,600 resolution
for a variety of professional applications including medical, engineering, control rooms, CAD, graphics and design, and desktop publishing. It has a 400 cd/m2 brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a 178/178 degree viewing angle and a 6ms response time.

The 305T also includes an 80mm height-adjustable stand with flexible tilt and swivel capabilities, five USB 2.0 ports (one up, four down) and a wide viewing area that can support multi-window applications. It also has wall-mounting brackets for space savings. The 305T employs Samsung's Digital Power Management Signaling (DPMS) mode to automatically assess whether the monitor is in use and can be switched to stand-by mode, which uses less than two watts of power, showed Digitimes.

The monitor will be available in November through Samsung resellers and distribution channels. The 30-inch model is priced at US$1999.99 MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price), according to the company.

In the meantime, Sharp announced a 64 inch LCD monitor that supports 4096 X 2160 resolution, at 8.84 million pixels. The presentation was made at CEATEC in Japan, one of the more popular week-long trades, taking place outside Tokyo, and right after the recently ended CEDIA Expo featured 1080p projectors, plasmas and LCDs. (Back in June, three German companies were developing technology capable of displaying a 5000 X 2000 resolution image). The screen is still in the development phase and will be targeting film producers as well as medical researchers, said a Sharp representative. Some TV personalities from Japan complained that the "1080" made them look bad, while the new resolution is much better.
