Samba, an app that seamlessly integrates Linux/Unix servers and desktops into Active Directory environments using the winbind daemon, is now at version 4.1.0 RC1.

The sixth maintenance release is in the 4.x branch and contains all of Samba's technology parts, both a file server, which can be upgraded from existing Samba 3.x releases, and the AD domain controller previously known as “samba4.”

Highlights of Samba 4.1.0 RC1:

• Directory replication has been reworked in order to improve the correctness and efficiency; • Support has been added for server-side copy operations via the SMB2 FSCTL_SRV_COPYCHUNK request; • The Btrfs VFS module provided with Samba 4.1.0 has been improved; • The Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT) has been removed.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
