Samba 4.0.17, an app that seamlessly integrates Linux/Unix servers and desktops into Active Directory environments using the winbind daemon, has been released with a large number of fixes and other various improvements.

This is just a maintenance build in the 4.0.x branch but, unlike the previous versions in this branch, which have been rather small, the current release is pretty big.

According to the developers, the “force user” function now works as expected, a problem with the server taking too long to respond to a MSG_PRINTER_DRVUPGRADE message has been fixed, a memory leak has been fixed in printer_list_get_printer(), the remote users are now correctly added into the local groups, and the maximum netbios name components have been increased.

Also, the “spoolss: architecture” parameter usage has been added, “net ads search” on high latency networks no longer returns a partial list with no error indication, samba4 services are now binding on the IPv6 addresses and the connection delays have been fixed, and the handling of fragmented RPC requests has been improved.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. If you are using this version of Samba, you should upgrade as soon as possible to take advantage of the multiple fixes.
