Slated for theatrical release for May 6, 2011, “Spider-Man 4” will supposedly also mark a return to the true spirit of the franchise, after the disappointment that was the third installment, according to critics and fans alike. This mostly happened because director Sam Raimi was not given full creative control on set, a thing that will hopefully change once they start working on the fourth film.

Speaking with Empire magazine (as quoted by ScreenRant), there are plenty of things about “Spider-Man 3” that Raimi has come to regret, along with many fans across the world. All of them, though, were possible once the director was forced into doing whatever the movie studio wanted, thus considerably limiting his perspective and, at the same time, putting a barrier on how far he could go with the given characters.

“They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually. But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn’t really have creative control, so to speak.” Raimi says. One of the first things that the studio made the director do – more or less against his will – was to include Venom as one of the villains, an idea Raimi was strongly opposed to. “I don’t even want to comment on Venom, because I know he’s a great character and all the fans love him. I never want to say anything bad about a much-beloved character because usually it turns out that I’m the one that doesn’t understand what makes it great.” the director further explains.

Despite all this, it seems that the fourth film will see Raimi back at the helm, one hundred percent. Or, at least, that’s what the director is aiming for right now. “The best way for me to move forward on films, I realize…and this was a lesson I had to learn for myself… is that I’ve gotta be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film.” explains the director.

With his mind being set on having Kirsten Dunst back on set whatever it takes, it certainly looks like Raimi is finally getting his way with “Spider-Man 4,” several movie-oriented publications are already pointing out. For more on this, keep an eye on this space.
