14 DAY TRIAL // Just weeks after Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes announced they were getting a divorce, word got out in the press that another woman was behind the split, Rebecca Hall. Confirmation has now come that Mendes is dating the much young actress.
The Daily Mail has it straight from the horse's mouth: a rep for the Oscar-winning director, now working on the upcoming James Bond installment in London, confirms he is involved with Hall.
“It’s true they are in a relationship,” says the publicist. He doesn't mention how long the two have been together or whether they were an item back when Mendes and Winslet's marriage came crumbling down.
Because it would be natural to assume they were and that, to a certain extent, it's Rebecca's fault that Sam's marriage to Kate collapsed, a source close to her stresses she only agreed to date Sam after the divorce.
“They are dating and have been for some time. I can’t put an exact date on it, but certainly nothing happened until after Sam’s marriage was over,” says the unnamed spy.
Nevertheless, there's no denying there was friction on Sam's marriage because of his relationship with Rebecca, which might or might not have been romantic in nature back then, the British tab underlines.
“News of their relationship comes 18 months after Miss Hall was blamed for the collapse of Mendes’ six-year marriage to Titanic actress Miss Winslet,” the Mail writes.
“At the time it was claimed Miss Winslet ended the marriage after growing tired of her husband’s closeness to Cambridge-educated Miss Hall, whose father Sir Peter founded the Royal Shakespeare Company,” the report further argues.
“But sources close to Mendes, who has an eight-year-old son Joe with his ex-wife, insisted the couple were nothing more than friends,” adds the Mail.
Voices online are even saying the two, Sam and Rebecca waited the “respectable amount of time” after the divorce before coming out as a couple, but they were definitely an item at the time his marriage ended.
Of course, all that is pure speculation.
