Sam Houser, one of the founders and leaders of developer Rockstar, says that the development process for his company’ titles, including the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, is still somewhat mysterious for him and needs to pose problems in order for the resulting title to offer quality.

VG247 is quoting the developer as saying that, “Even though we’ve done this for quite a long time, I still have to pinch myself and think, ‘How did I get on this train at the right time?’. Nothing else can claim to have the same infinite expansiveness ahead of it that this medium does. The train is still running.”

The team working on GTA V and on other Rockstar franchises understands how much the price of a title can mean for a player and is aiming to deliver enough content and quality to satisfy their requirements.

Houser adds, “We’re definitely in that realm of excitement and misery at the same time. It’s not supposed to be easy. Each time, we push everything to its limit. I don’t think it’s conscious, but it’s sort of how it has to be. It has to hurt more. You want to find Kurtz every time.”

The studio leader also believes that the audience of video games is getting more mature, which means that some of the content in GTA is more acceptable.

At the same time Houser believes that another 10 to 20 years need to pass before authorities understand the games are similar to other art forms and they should not accept to censor them.

The new title in the franchise will include over-the-top violence, some nudity and drug use, according to a filing from the ESRB.

GTA V will be launched on September 17 on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
