Ubisoft has apparently confirmed that Sam Fisher and his Splinter Cell franchise will be back after the upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

The publisher is keen on bringing a new iteration designed for next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is out in August for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U platforms.

While Ubisoft is working on quite a few cross-generation titles, like Watch Dogs or Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, it seems that Blacklist is only going to appear on current consoles and the PC.

Even so, Ubisoft Toronto's Scott Lee told ArabicGamers that series protagonist Sam Fisher would be back for new adventures, as a plan for the next-generation consoles is already in the works.

While Lee didn't outright confirm that a next-gen Splinter Cell is coming, he said that "Sam will be back."
