Salix, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware that is simple, fast, easy to use, and based on XFCE desktop environment, is now at version 14.0 RC1.

The developer of Salix OS 14.0 RC1, The Salix OS Team, has provided two separate images for the 32-bit and 64-bit architecture.

Salix Xfce 14.0 RC1 has some pretty important changes. The most prominent one is the replacement of Mozilla Firefox with Midori.

Apparently, the decision to move away from Firefox as the default browser was made because Firefox has become too much of a moving target and it became increasingly difficult to support.

Also, OpenJRE 7 is now included in the full mode installation and it's available through the repositories.

The provided ISO images are hybrid images, so users can either burn them on CDs, or use dd to transfer them to a USB stick.

Download Salix Xfce 14.0 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
