Salix 14.1 RC2 is GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware that is simple, fast, easy to use, and based on the Xfce desktop environment. The OS is now ready for testing and comes with a few important changes.

The previous Release Candidate in the series was launched only a couple of weeks ago, but the development is going smoothly and a number of features have been integrated.

Among the most important changes is the upgrade for the Linux kernel, for the 64-bit version, which was necessary in order to fix a security issue.

Other highlights of this latest build of Salix include the possibility to add a printer (users need to be in the wheel group), the additions of gst-plugins-good1 (parole no longer crashes before installing codecs), and the addition of Flash by default.

According to the developer, ibus and all related packages are no longer part for the ISO, a number of security updates have been implemented in several packages, and a few small bug fixes have been added in slapt-get/slapt-src/spi.

A very important feature has been implemented in the Salix distro, starting with the previous RC. The OS now uses sudo, which has replaced the old su package.

A complete list of new features can be found in the changelog. Download Salix Xfce 14.1 RC2 right now from the website.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
