Five months ago, mobile phone make Motorola started selling smartphones in India once again, and the company is now said to have managed to top 1 million devices sales in the timeframe.

Motorola pulled all of its devices from India a few years ago, but decided to re-enter the market at the beginning of this year, and has registered great success there since doing so, it seems.

At the moment, the handset vendor sells no less than three smartphones in the country, including the Moto X, Moto G and Moto E.

All of these devices are available through a single retailer, namely Flipkart, but it appears that they are still selling very well.

"We believe these sales figures should put Motorola among the top five mobile brands in the country," Sachin Bansal, founder and CEO of Flipkart, said, according to a recent article on Times of India.

As reported by the news site, the fact that Motorola is enjoying great sales of its devices also shows that users in the country are adapting fast, and that the adoption of touch-enabled devices in India is very high.

"It proves that the business model that we chose was a really strong one. I don't think we have achieved anything similar elsewhere," Magnus Ahlqvist, corporate VP, Emea & Apac, Motorola Mobility, explained.

India is the first market where Motorola has been selling its Moto X, Moto G and Moto E devices exclusively through one retailer, it seems.

According to Magnus Ahlqvist, Motorola will continue to offer its devices in India via Flipkart alone, and does not plan on bringing these phones to offline stores anytime soon.

He also noted that the tight relationship with the online retailer was the one that determined Motorola to release its latest Android phone, the Moto E, in India first, and then internationally.

"Only by selling online and only by selling with one player, a player like Motorola is able to become one of the top five mobile brands in the country. Five years ago this would have been science fiction. Today it's a reality and we believe that's a trend that would continue for a long time,” Flipkart's Bansal stated.

According to him, the success of Motorola’s devices at Flipkart is what the retailer was looking for several years ago. Apparently, online commerce is expected to gain even more ground in the country in the near future, at least when it comes to mobile devices.
