While 3D has just began to spread across the market, it has already reached a point where not just glasses-free screens, but even small devices like handheld Nintendo consoles have adopted it, and sales are thought to be on track to grow substantially.

Just a short time ago, Eizo unveiled a 3D display that does not require glasses for the 3D effect to be enjoyed.

This is just one of the latest products that has come to make it clear that 3D genuinely might be on track towards eventually becoming mainstream.

Now, market analysts have reached the conclusion that the mobile segment will make haste in adopting 3D, fast enough to reach high amounts of sales by the end of 2014.

To be more specific, 3D-enabled mobile devices ere expected to reach more than 60 million sold units four years from now.

Of all portables, tablets and smartphones, but especially handheld game consoles, are poised to be quickest in moving to 3D panels.

“Due to advancements in autostereoscopic 3D technology, a type of 3D technology that does not require glasses to view S3D images, 3D technology is finding its way into mobile devices. The more predictable viewing distance of mobile devices enables a compelling and convenient 3D experience," reportedly said Stephanie Ethier, a senior analyst at In-Stat.

"Additionally, many of the chipsets found in today’s smartphones have the processing power to handle 3D content; therefore the smartphones promise the largest opportunity for mobile 3D technology suppliers over the next five years," added Mr. Ethier.

To better illustrate how fast this phenomenon will progress, In-Stat believes that 45% of all shipped mobiles devices with 3D will be smartphones in 2012.

What remains to be seen is just how quick display makers are in perfecting their no-glasses 3D technologies and if they are just as effective when it comes to implement their discoveries.
