Shipments should begin in a week or thereabouts, according to the company

Back in June, we wrote about a certain Windows 8 tablet that Lenovo was working on, and which may or may not start shipping sooner rather than later, but it turns out that the truth was somewhere in between.

The tablet didn't start shipping “soon.” Since we learned of it back in June, “soon” would have translated in “before the end of the month” maybe, or at some point during July.

Only now have sales begun, however, in August, and shipments won't even commence before August 16. At least we can console ourselves with the fact that, at the very least, shipments have begun in 2013.

Not that we expect many people to be dying for a chance of buying one. Not after the ThinkPad table 2 failed to become memorable.

True, the Miix 10 slate, as the product is called, will probably have a larger potential customer base than the ThinkPad Tablet 2, but on the other hand, the newcomer is a watered-down version of that product, so it will lose some too.

Anyway, hardware-wise, the tablet measures 10.1 inches in diagonal and hides an Intel Atom Z2760 CPU beneath the hood, a dual-core with 1.8 GHz clock speed.

2 GB of LPDDR2 RAM are included as well (random access memory), as well as 64 GB of eMMC Flash storage.

Furthermore, for connectivity, Lenovo has implemented Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11b/g/n WiFi wireless support.

Other specifications include a front camera (1 megapixel) and a two-cell battery that should last for a few good hours.

Finally, the LCD uses a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Obviously, Lenovo took the concept of mid-range slate seriously. Fortunately, Windows 8 looks just fine in that resolution.

Go here to place an order, assuming you have $599 / €599 to spare.
