Video game publisher THQ has announced that it plans to launch a character creation tool for its upcoming Saints Row: the Third, called the Initiation Station, which will allow interested players to create the protagonist they plan to control in the game.

The Initiation Station will be launched for free on the PlayStation Network from Sony, the Xbox Live service from Microsoft and the PC on November 1, giving players about two weeks to play around with the options and see what they like in their Saints Row characters.

In order to use the Initiation Station and have their characters ready when the game launches players will need to link their network identity on a chosen platform with a THQ account, allowing them to upload and download characters.

Saints Row has started life as a rival for the Grand Theft Auto series from Rockstar and Take Two but since the second game both the publisher and the developers at Volition have understood that they need to differentiate, which means going full gas on the crazy side of the experience.

The new game will take place in the same fictional city, Steelport, where the Third Street Saints are now involved in a war with another criminal group, called the Syndicate, which is allied with three very different gangs.

The gameplay will be more varied and players will be able to engage in a lot more open world mayhem between story linked missions that focus on significant choices and changing storylines.

Saints Row: the Third will be launched on all three main gaming platform on November 15 in North America and three days later in Europe.

The trailer below has two rather attractive women who wear provocative clothes and talk about why THQ is doing a very good thing by launching the Initiation Stations early.
