All other games are similar to 2011 version of the same series

One of the leading developers working on Saints Row: The Third at Volition has said that his game is the only one out this fall to break out of the sequel trap and offer something new.

Speaking to Ausgamer Scott Phillips, who is the lead designer working on Saints Row: The Third, has said, “Looking at everybody else that’s out in November, obviously there’s a lot of huge games – but I think everyone can also see that a lot of those games are basically the same as they were last year, and the year before and the year before.”

The developer says that The Third is not only a very different game when compared to the competitors but there are major changes even when looking at what Saints Row 2 was offering three years ago.

He added, “This sort of guilty-pleasure gaming where it’s all about fun and enjoyment and you’re just having a blast playing the game. We’re not trying to teach you a lesson or make you cry, we want you to just laugh and have a blast the whole time.”

Phillips says that one of the biggest lessons that developer Volition has learned while working on the Saints Row series is to focus less on what makes logical sense inside a game universe and always seek an answer to the question of whether a new feature is fun to play or not.

This is what lead to such additions as cyberspace or the ability to run around the entire city with a fully naked character.

The franchise initially was created in the shadow of Grand Theft Auto but has since then created its own personality, a mix between total freedom and full on crazy.

Saints Row: The Third will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on November 15 in the United States and three days later in Europe.
