THQ and Volition are getting ready to deploy Saints Row 3 next week, but the publisher has already confirmed that work has begun on the fourth installment in the open world series, which is set to be 'even wilder' than the upcoming one.

Saints Row 3: The Third is scheduled to appear next week for all sorts of platforms, from developer Volition and publisher THQ, promising the deliver one of the most over the top open world experiences out there.

We've already posted our hands on impressions of the game from Gamescom 2011, and recent videos of the title only served to point out how outlandish the whole thing is.

Even so, according to THQ's core games boss, Danny Bilson, the fourth Saints Row game is already in development and it's going to push the envelope even further, at least through its story that's seemingly already fleshed out.

"Like any game, if you have a great creative core to it you just keep exploiting that core," he told G4. "For instance, I know what Saints Row 4 is about and it is wilder than this one."

Bilson refrained from offering more details about what's actually going to happen in the next Saints Row, but did say that, "It's a good example of how you take what you have and you ask, 'what could happen in the next?"

Saints Row 3 is definitely looking like a massive improvement over the second game that was released many years ago, so it's going to be interesting to see just how the next one will be able to top it.

This new sequel confirmation joins a series of already obvious announcements, including new Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed games that will appear in 2012, or a Battlefield 4 that might be released in the coming years.
