Saints Row 3: The Third, the newest installment in the open-world series from Volition and THQ, won't feature any sort of competitive multiplayer mode, instead opting just to use a two-player cooperative one.

The first two games in THQ's Saints Row franchise have had some sort of competitive multiplayer mode, letting players unleash chaos in the virtual world of Stillwater city with others.

For the third game, the developer, Volition, gathered feedback from fans and saw that the competitive multiplayer action wasn't all that popular.

Instead, the studio will only focus on the online cooperative mode of the new game.

"The majority of people wanted the single-player and co-op experience, so we're focusing on blowing that out of the water," Senior Producer Greg Donovan explained to Game Informer.

According to the developer, every mission and activity in the game's campaign mode can be experienced with another player, and the co-op mode will have full drop-in and drop-out support.

The studio is convinced that playing with another person will only augment the feeling they'll get after completing the outrageous missions that are included in the single-player mode.

We already heard quite a lot of interesting things about Saints Row 3: The Third last week, when the same magazine published a wider array of details, all part of a cover story on the new THQ game.

The title will see the 3rd Street Saints gang, which is led by the playable character, go against an evil criminal organization called The Syndicate.

New weapons, which can be upgraded with enhanced features, characters, vehicles, which can be tuned for performance and looks, and other possibilities are included in the game.

Saints Row 3: The Third is set to appear around the end of the year, for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and, perhaps, the PC, but no concrete details are known.
