The company might be ready to make announcements before the end of 2012

Volition, the development studio best known for their recent work on the Saints Row series, is now rumored to be working on a project linked to the new generation of home consoles, a full new game linked to the franchise, in addition to also being involved with the inSane trilogy and with an unannounced downloadable only game.

Superannuation has done the detective work and has found a LinkedIn profile for a Volition staffer which directly mentions work being done on “mysterious next generation of consoles.”

The profile also talks about “three unannounced titles” that Volition is currently working on.

Another profile corroborates the information by directly mentioning Saints Row 4, listing potential platforms as including the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC.

Another current project is an “unannounced THQ XBLA game.”

Volition has traditionally worked with THQ since the Saints Row series was introduced and that probably means that the new titles are also linked to the troubled publisher.

THQ has announced that Devil’s Third, a video game designed by Tomonobu Itagaki, will either be canceled or moved to another company in the coming months because the company can no longer afford to bring the game to market.

This might mean that Volition itself might be forced to cancel or to move some of its own projects to another publisher in the coming months.

Earlier during 2012 THQ has announced that it was focusing more on its core properties and renouncing any link to the casual game segment in order to make sure that it would turn a profit during 2012.

The move will see THQ back the development of new games in the Dawn of War, Saint’s Row and Company of Heroes franchises, while also investing more in the quality of Darksiders II.

Saint’s Row will get a new standalone expansion, called Enter the Dominatrix, later during the year.
