Panda Security partnered with Against Institution to forge a new weapon designed to make your web surfing experience safer and now it is freely delivered to users worldwide. Web browsing has its huge share of benefits but with the new types of threats floating all over the Internet care should be taken if you want to keep your computer clean and your credit card details safe.

WOT (Web of Trust) is an extension for your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) co-branded by the two aforementioned companies that warns the user about risky or shady websites, keeping them safe from online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam or unreliable shopping sites. Its protection is extended with Panda's up-to-the-minute information on malware distributors and dangerous domains.

The add-on is a community-based safe surfing tool with “intuitive traffic-light style rating” in order to keep you safe. This means that Internet speed is not slowed down visibly and you'll benefit from safety ratings when working with search engines such as Google, Yahoo! or Wikipedia, but other popular websites as well. Thus, going to a shady web location will cause an alert and prevent the page from opening straight away. In the search results the add-on will display the trust level with a circle color-coded to the corresponding trustworthiness degree.

WOT's ratings are community based and currently over 5 million users contribute with information, comments and ratings. By joining efforts, both companies hope to expand this community and offer users safe web search and surf. “As we did with Collective Intelligence, we trust in the power of the community to improve the safety of the user, that’s why we believe WOT is the best tool to help with safe surfing on Internet,” Juan Santana, Panda Security CEO, said.

Esa Surio, Against Intuition's CEO, is also confident in the collaboration with Panda: “WOT prides itself in providing frontline protection in the battle against online threats, and with this strong collaboration between Panda Security and Web of Trust we have strengthened both our offerings and given our users a definite advantage against cybercrime.”

Cloud technology is spreading and in the case of Panda it has brought only success, if you think of Panda Cloud Antivirus. With WOT it is put to another good use, this time the field of activity being online threats. Besides protection against online menaces the product addresses a wide range of users, including colorblind, who have exceptional choices in order to recognize the color-coded threat level.

The add-on is available in two versions, one for Firefox and one for Internet Explorer, on Softpedia as well.
