A preview build of Safari 5.2 is available to those enrolled with Apple’s dev program. The browser works with OS X Lion machines and brings a nifty change that many users will applaud when the final version of the application gets released.

People familiar with the software say the new Safari does away with the previous search method by allowing users to type their query directly into the address bar field (like most other web browsers out there).

The change should be welcomed by the entire Apple community, as this feature (as well as many others) has been missed in Safari for years. Safari 5.2 also highlights the domain section of the URL, and delivers a modified Reader icon, sources indicate.
