According to AP, the defense lawyers representing Saddam Hussein in the trial for crimes against humanity announced that they will not attend the hearings scheduled for November 28 unless the court accepts the demands for "neutral international intervention" to guarantee security.
This announcement comes two days after three persons opened fire
on an automobile carrying Adel al-Zubeidi and Thamir al-Khuzaie, the first representing Iraq's former president and the latter, Barazan Ibrahim, Hussein's brother. In the attack, Adel al-Zubeidi lost his life and Thamir al-Khuzaie was wounded.
Khalil al-Dulaimi, head of the defense team, told the reporters that the Iraqi government and the coalition bear some responsibility for the attack which took place two days ago because they were unable to maintain the order in the country.
Al-Dulaimi released a statement declaring that the defense considers the November 28 trial date "null and void" because of the "very dangerous circumstances".
This is the second attack on one of Saddam Hussein's lawyers. The authorities found the corpse of Saadoun al-Janabi, a member of the former Baath party, one day after the trial began.
