“Bruno,” Sacha Baron Cohen’s second mockumentary since the 2006 “Borat,” will show fans that it takes true dedication and plenty of sacrifice to make this kind of film. More specifically, the film will illustrate how comedian Sacha Baron Cohen will spare no expense to make his character as believable as possible, even if that means having to bleach all his body hair and suffer an allergic reaction to the procedure, according to The Sun.

As the British tabloid reveals, the actor was so set to make an impression as Bruno that he agreed to have all his bodily hair bleached, simply because he heard that was the norm in certain communities. Unfortunately for him, the star suffered some kind of allergic reaction to the bleach, which ended in him not being able to sit down for a couple of days and some delay to the movie. Still, it was worth the sacrifice, Baron Cohen believes, as per the unnamed source for The Sun.

“Sacha is committed to as much realism as he can muster in his films. He’d heard that all-over hairlessness is a popular trend, so he thought he’d bleach all his hair so it looked invisible. But it quickly turned into a disaster. Shortly after having the procedure done he felt a burning sensation and it grew steadily worse. He had a bad allergic reaction to hydrogen peroxide, which is a strong bleaching agent.” the tab writes, citing the insider.

In fact, Sacha’s reaction was so severe that he actually had to drop by the emergency room at the hospital for fear it could develop into something even worse. “It was so severe around a certain part of his anatomy that he couldn’t sit down for three days. He had to make an emergency appointment with the doctors, who gave him some medication to counter the irritation. Crew members found the whole incident hilarious and it slowed down filming for a bit, but Sacha soon got over the discomfort. He has suffered no long-lasting ill effects.” the same source explains.

As fans already know, Sacha is famous for his open willingness to put personal safety at risk for the sake of at least one awesome scene – otherwise, not many could explain some of his stunts with the people who appear in his mockumentaries, including the televised “Ali G.” “Bruno,” which sees the multi-award winning actor returning to the genre he practically elevated to the state of art, drops in theaters on July 10 and, from what early reviews are saying, it is a certified hit.
