Sabayon Linux is a Gentoo-based Linux distribution created by Fabio Erculiani, currently supporting the x86 and x86-64 architectures. Sabayon Linux differs from Gentoo in that instead of installing the entire system from source code, the initial installment is made using packages which are pre-compiled and bundled with the source code.

According to their latest release announcement, Sabayon Linux Business Edition is now available especially for those interested more in doing some work rather than gaming. As it was stated in the release announcement, "Sabayon has prepared for you a fast, cheap and stable solution for every "office needs" you might have!! ".

Highlights:

- optimized Server profile - kernel updated to the 2.6.22 version - stable branch for almost all packages - Wpa_supplicant compiled with a better support for mac80211 - latest madwifi driver - latest Sabayon Installer - latest Ati-drivers - latest Nvidia-drivers - fast installation speed - package Selection on install time - fast working live environment - easier firewall management with Kmyfirewall

Also there are some other aspects which are worth being mentioned here, such as the fact that Sabayon Business Edition contains proprietary and non-GPL software too (for example NVIDIA' s, ATI' s, Google's a.s.o). You should check out those products' license agreement and in case you decide not to agree with their terms you should remove them. You also have the possibility to run SabayonLinux without the proprietary drivers. For doing that you should use the "noproprietary" boot flag. Another fact related to this distribution which is mentioned in the release announcement is that when exiting ColdWar or Sauerbraten the system will automatically shut down . Sabayon Linux is available with KDE, GNOME and Xfce desktop environments.

The Sabayon developers also claim that one can upgrade any Gentoo-based installation (Gentoo, VLOS, RR4, RR64) to the latest SabayonLinux without losing his/her personal data and settings. However, they will be supporting only the upgrades using SabayonLinux as base.
