Extreme cold temperatures have led to a water main breaking in Smithtown, N.Y. As the pipe broke, a man's vehicle was stopped in its tracks.

The SUV was nearly swallowed, as it reached a sinkhole. ABC News notes that the incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m., on Mt. Pleasant Rd.

26 residences were left without running water when the pipe burst. Roads in the area were closed down immediately after, and remained closed until the split was fixed.

According to the Suffolk County Water Authority, a horizontal split in the pipe occurred. Water delivery was reinstated today.
