Police have arrested a third man in the brutal assault on an SUV driver by a group of bikers in New York City.

37-year-old Reginald Chance has been charged with gang assault in the first degree and assault, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Chance was the man bashing in the Range Rover's window with his helmet. His arrest comes after he has turned himself in.

The gang crime charge suggests that him breaking the window has set in a motion a series of events that led to driver Alexian Lien being severely beaten by other bikers.

In New York, any attack during which the suspect has help from at least two other people constitutes gang assault.

Last week's SUV attack resulted in Lien running over biker Edwin Mieses Jr. and leaving him with a crushed spine and a subsequent paralysis.
