SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11, an enterprise-class Linux distribution powered by SUSE LINUX and created by Novell, is has received its second service pack.

SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Service Pack 2 comes with important updates, such as a new Linux kernel, version 3.0. It offers support for transparent huge pages and per-CPU network load balancing, latest Intel Xeon, latest AMD Opteron, and exploits new hardware RAS features like CPU and memory offlining.

The new service pack is also offers commercial Btrfs filesystem support. According to SUSE developers, Snapper, a tool that's integrated with YaST and Zypper, uses the copy-on-write and snapshot capabilities of Btrfs to help administrators audit and roll-back system configuration changes.

Service Pack 2 of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 also includes support for Linux Containers, more precisely overhead OS virtualization which is desined to work with Xen, KVM, ESX and Hyper-V.
