I know you are just waiting for STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl to come out. The game isn't here yet, but its developer has decided to release some new information about the game.

You know that the story of this game is a hypothesis based on real events, which occurred in the 1980s. If you missed your history classes, I must inform you that in 1986, a nuclear reactor at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant blew up and a radioactive cloud circled the entire planet.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl sees a second explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant, followed by some strange phenomena like earthquakes, flashes of bright light, raucous thunder all coming from the explosion site. Everyone who goes to investigate the explosion never returns, they disappear without a trace.

Two years pass from the explosion and mutants start to appear around the explosion site. The army intervenes and tries to drive the mutants back into their lair. In the mean time, humans try and venture in the Zone (the zone around the explosion site) seeking to satisfy their curiosity. Many of them die, but some are luckier and make it back alive, bringing with them some artifacts.

This is only the back story, as the game for you (the player) begins in the year 2012. You are found in a comatose state in the Zone after a brutal crash. By the looks of it, you are one of the Stalkers (artifact hunters) but you suffer from partial memory loss. You are forced to go back into the Zone as you have to repay a Zone dealer because he helps you recover. Apparently, this is what you will have to do in the first missions of the game.
