Even though Samsung launched the Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Beam smartphones back in February at the Mobile World Congress 2012, the handset vendor failed to offer any details regarding the phones’ processors.

Although we knew the smartphones are equipped with dual-core processors, there was no information on the chipset that powers the Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Beam.

With Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 going on sale at Three UK today, we were expecting the South Korean company to reveal the phone’s full specs sheet, but in the end it was ST-Ericsson that came forward with an official statement.

According to ST-Ericsson, both Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Beam are powered by its NovaThor U8500 platform, which also equips the Galaxy S Advance’s core.

Today we can confirm that two more Samsung GALAXY Android-powered smartphones – the GALAXY Beam and GALAXY Ace 2 – will be powered by NovaThor ModAp platforms.

“In February, we announced that the Samsung GALAXY S Advance was the first smartphone by Samsung to leverage the U8500 platform. And thanks to the U8500’s versatility and maturity, Samsung was able to bring other devices based on the same platform to market quickly.”

Those unfamiliar with Samsung’s mid-range smartphones should know that Galaxy Ace 2 is equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 800 MHz, while the Galaxy Beam is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core CPU.

Each smartphone packs 768MB of RAM, but the Galaxy Beam embeds 8GB of internal memory, whereas the Galaxy Ace 2 has only 4GB on-board memory. Both feature microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 has just been launched on the market, but the Galaxy Beam is still expected to hit shelves in Q2 2012. No word on the latter’s exact release date or pricing options for the moment.
