SSE is trying to expand its network by showcasing a new product, destined to increase the number of electric car owners who choose to charge their vehicles at home.

SSE represents one of the biggest energy enterprises on the UK market. It plays a major part in the process of generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity and gas. The company is also known for the fact that it tries to obtain the electricity they use and sell from green sources.

For now, SSE has approximately 10 million customers in UK, where they have sealed deals with very important companies such as Scottish Hydro Electric, Atlantic, Swalec and Souther Electric. SSE has also introduced on the market an advantage that should make the potential owners of hybrids even happier.

The company has decided to launch a new membership scheme that allows people to charge their electric vehicles on the spot, using the so called “charge where you are” system. The facility is available all across the country, so far in a limited number of locations.

The customers who will choose to sign up for Polar, the new strategy coming from SSE, will benefit from the usage of a high-tech Homecharge wallbox. They will be able to recharge by visiting one of the 4000 charging points which are available at this time. Also, for those who do not want to waste precious time, SSE has released an application for iPhone and iPad which can tell them where the closest chargepoint location is.

The list of advantages is still open, since potential clients are offered great deals for hotel services, parking and restaurants. Further more, the company supports the hybrid vehicles market by giving the customers access to special prices for green electric vehicles.

For those who have recently purchased their eco-friendly cars, the enterprise offers assistance. A team of professionals will take care of the new customer by installing a system that will allow the owner to recharge at home.

To make this idea possible, SSE has established a partnership with Chargemaster. The people interested in this facility should be aware of the fact that the installation fee is £95 and also, a monthly subscription costs £24.50.

By the end of the year 2010, the team behind the Polar project hopes that they will be able to offer more than 4,000 charging points, available for electric vehicles. The individuals who might consider investing in this project for personal use should know that SSE's Polar initiative offers them great value daytime rates for home charging, and also, a lower price for night time charging.
