14 DAY TRIAL // The latest version of SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access is designed to play nice with a range of technologies, including the third Community Technology Preview of SQL Server 2012 codenamed Denali. Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access v5.1 was released earlier this month, and as was the case with previous iterations, the latest update is available for download free of charge.
As the official label of the tool infers, customers can leverage the SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) in order to streamline the transition from a Microsoft Access database(s) to SQL Server or SQL Azure.
The migration is performed automatically, simplifying the work of IT professionals, the software giant reveals.
“SSMA for Access automates conversion of Microsoft Access database objects to SQL Server database objects, loads the objects into SQL Server, and then migrates data from Microsoft Access to SQL Server,” the Redmond company stated.
“SSMA for Access v5.1 is designed to support migration from Microsoft Access 97 and higher to all editions of SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server Code Named "Denali", and SQL Azure.”
Support has been introduced even for the recently released SQL Server 2012 codenamed Denali CTP3.
Early adopters already testing SQL Server 2012 codenamed Denali CTP3, will be able to see that even new features such as conversion of Oracle Sequence to SQL Server "Denali" sequence and conversion of MySQL LIMIT clause to SQL Server "Denali" OFFSET / FETCH clauses are supported by SSMA for Access 5.1.
There are no less than for flavors of SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access 5.1 available to customers, each tailored to a specific technology, namely: SSMA for MySQL v5.1, SSMA for Access v5.1, SSMA for Oracle v5.1 and SSMA for Sybase v5.1.
