Microsoft is offering Cloud customers the chance to help with the development of federations technology in SQL Azure.

The SQL Azure Federations Product Evaluation Program Nomination survey is already live on Microsoft Connect, with the software giant accepting participant applications.

The evaluation program is scheduled to start sometime in the next couple of months and it’s scheduled to end on August 30th, 2011.

A valid Windows Live ID is necessary in order to get to the SQL Azure Federations Product Evaluation Program Nomination, but customers should be aware of the fact that simply expressing their desire to enter the testing program does not actually guarantee participation.

“Microsoft SQL Azure Federations Product Evaluation Program enables selected customers to get early access to the upcoming federation technology. The goal of the program is to help customers targeting building solution on SQL Azure to experiment with the technology before its public release,” the company stated.

As with additional Connect program, the software giant expects early adopters to not only test the new SQL Azure federations technology, but to also provide feedback.

Microsoft uses input shared by testers through Connect to shape the final versions of next generation technologies, and the SQL Azure Federations Product Evaluation Program is no exception.

“The preview is available to only a limited set of customers. Customer who are selected for the program, will receive communication once the program is kicked off in the months of May and June 2011,” the company said.

For those not familiar with SQL Azure Federations, Microsoft has set up the following webpage on TechNet. Here is the definition provided by the software giant:

“Federations are objects in SQL Azure databases, that allow scaling-out of data for building data tier applications with unlimited scalability and best price-performance through amplifying backend elasticity and simplified multi-tenancy at the database tier.”
