14 DAY TRIAL // On Thursday, leading mobile application developer SPB Software announced the release of a new flavor of its SPB TV for Android application, which is now available as version 2.0, and which was also made available for download for free.
According to the company, it managed to make the software solution free courtesy of advertising revenues it brings to the company. Moreover, it is also subscription-free, the company announced.
The ads featured in SPB TV won't be displayed at all times. Users would view them only during channel buffering, something that should preserve the great user experience the application already offers.
The application comes with a series of features that Android users might already be familiar with, such as channel previews, a TV guide, a catalogue with more than 150 channels in over 20 languages, and more.
The features list of the new application version includes:
- Integrated TV Guide with a list of current and upcoming TV shows - Unique browser with fast channel launching and switching - Quick channel preview (picture-in-picture mode) - On-screen control panel - Video on Demand - Setting a reminder - Video quality switcher - Advanced Video Codec support - Tablets support
At the same time, the software solution includes a video on demand (VOD) option, new to the version designed for Google's Android operating system, while also adding support for tablet PCs.
Another important enhancement the new app version comes with is the support for Advanced Video Codec (H.264), which is expected to result in great video quality.
We should note that the SPB TV application was made available for download for other mobile operating systems as well, including iPhone/iPad, Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and WebOS, and that it already enjoys a number of over 2 million users.

SPB TV 2.0 can be used on 3G or WiFi network connections. The application was made available for download for free on the Android Market, the company announced.
