She deserves her own movie but not if it turns out like this

With the first “Iron Man” film in 2008, Marvel launched its very successful comic book-inspired universe, also known as MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). It comprises standalone movies for Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Avengers, but it doesn’t include a film for Black Widow, who is heavily featured in all these.

At some point, Marvel said that they were in the process of working out the details of a standalone Black Widow movie, which brought infinite joy to the fans: it was about time she got the screentime she deserved!

That was a long time ago, and in the meantime, it became clear that Black Widow wouldn’t be getting her own movie. Marvel was simply too busy churning out male-centric films to focus on her story, no matter how many wanted or asked to see it.

Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in the Marvel films, hosted Saturday Night Live over the weekend, and agreed to do a skit called “Black Widow Trailer.” You can see it in the video below: it highlights Marvel’s biggest problem right now, by taking a humorous approach to it.

Marvel needs a Black Widow movie, that’s for sure, but it also needs to know what to do with this character, to do it justice. It wouldn’t do if they made it play into Hollywood stereotypes. Anything, even no Black Widow movie, would be better than this.
