The Koozali SME Server development team, through Terry Fage, was pleased to announce today, March 30, the immediate availability for download and testing of the SME Server 9.1 Beta 1 computer operating system, which is now based on the upstream CentOS distribution, which in turn is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

According to the release notes, SME Server 9.1 Beta 1 brings a great number of changes to various areas of the distribution, including System Backup, LDAP support, Mail Server, Localisation, Server Manager, and Web Server. Each of these include updated packages and bugfixes, but the big news is that the operating system is based on CentOS 6.6.

Prominent features include ClamAV 0.98.6, inclusion of stunnel for TLS support in the mail server, disabled use of SSLv3 on the web server, SSLEngine used by default in the SSL vhost of the web server, PPPoE improvements, SSLRequireSSL support, updated pptpd, runit updated to version 2.1.2, and all available updates from the upstream CentOS 6.6 repos.

“The Koozali SME Server (SME Server) development team is pleased to announce the release of SME Server 9.1 Beta 1 which is based on CentOS 6.6,” says Terry Fage on behalf of the SME Server development team. “Bug reports and reports of potential bugs should be raised in the bug tracker (and only there, please).”

The second Beta release of SME Server 8.2 has also been released today

As usual, you can download SME Server 9.1 Beta 1 from Softpedia, where it is distributed as two installable-only ISO images, supporting both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) computer platforms. Please note that this version is unstable, thus not suitable for installation on production environments where stability is a must.

We remind everyone that SME Server is the leading Linux distribution for small and medium enterprises, and that the second Beta release of SME Server 8.2, based on CentOS 5.11, has also been announced today, which can be downloaded using the same link provided above.
