SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) Server is a CentOS-based Linux distribution, designed to be used on computer servers (database, e-mail, file or web servers), and targets, as the name suggests, the enterprise software market. SME Server is best known for being a simple but reliable system, which has

a great sense of security too.

The SME developers team has recently posted an announcement according to which they managed to release the 7.2 version for the SME Server. Based on CentOS 4.5 version, this new SME release comes also with many updates to almost all of its packages but also with some new features and several bug fixes and corrections.

Highlights:

- FuzzyOCR spamassassin plugin has been enabled to detect image spam
- X-Virus-Checked header now added to mail when it is scanned for viruses
- the possibility to tune the memory limit for qpsmtpd has been added
- the default disk layout has been changed and a hot spare drive is now automatically created if the system has more than two drives
- it is not necessary to reboot now after adding drives with invalid partition tables
- the Remote Access panel now offers the possibility to set the TCP port for SSH sessions
- PPTP has been upgraded to the latest release

This release also benefits from more translations than the previous ones. A Swedish and a Spanish translation have been added. Also the online manual has been redirected to a version that matches the user's chosen browser language, if such a version is available. Among other improvements I could also mention here the server-only firewall code, which now respects UDPPort configuration settings, the media check screen now sees the CD as CD, and DVD as before, some log warnings from FormMagick were removed and many others. There are also other changes made in this release which aims to prepare the system for the forthcoming migration to CentOS 5.
