Irvine, Califonia-based SMC Networks, a leading manufacturer of consumer and commercial networking solutions, has recently announced that it has started shipping its latest DOCSIS 2.0 Draft 11n Wireless Cable Modem Gateway. The new product has been designed to provide users with a number of network-related devices inside a single package, incorporating a DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem, a dual-band draft 802.11n wireless access point, a four-port 10/100 router and an advanced SPI firewall. According to the company, the new product is oriented towards both the home users and the small office networks.

“As a function of the economic climate, capital expenditures are tightening up. Subsequently, DOCSIS 3.0 deployments aren't as aggressive as planned 18 months ago,” Todd Babic, vice president of sales, Broadband Business Development for North America, explained. “However, competition in the telecommunications and retail sectors is driving consumer demand for speed enhancements on both the WAN and LAN sides. In true SMC fashion, we've developed a unique product that addresses these current and real challenges facing our MSO partners.”

The new SMC8014WN-RES has been designed to provide users with a dual-bad 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11n wireless connectivity, enabling a faster Internet connection, while still being compatible with older 802.11 b/g devices. The device can support up to 256 clients with up to 8 BSSIDs using four different MAC addresses. On the security side, the new wireless cable modem gateway offers a SPI firewall, a 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption, WPA, WPA2, intrusion detection, Denial of Service (DoS) protection, smart tracking, domain validation, multiple user profiles, Web-based authentication, and comprehensive logging capabilities.

According to SMC, the SMC8014WN-RES boasts an easy configuration option through a Web-based GUI and an easy-to-read LED display. The device is DOCSIS 1.1, 1.0 and 2.0-compliant and is ready to provide support to both users of the PC and MAC operating systems.

as usual to little far to late.

for starters no mention og the core CPU inside these SOC, its running at 260Mhx BYW, nothing like the required speeds for the demanding job that such a device will be asked to do, way to slow.

no mobile Wimax chipset, No certifiyed DoCSIS3 8x4 chipset fof upload and download channel bonding, and Not EVN a generic cheap 10/100/1000/gigabit ethernet WAN/LAN chipeset, never mind a real innovative generic dual WAN that could be used for Bonding or fallover for the long term in all consumers grade kit....

this chipset/SOC is just a joke were they are trying to shift END OF LINE tech labeled as top of the line from the PR perspective to con the sheeple/consumers into thinking they have somethng new.

to be clear,THIS IS NOT NEW, dont waste your money on this old antiquated slow tech.

make sure you asked for and get Wimax,11N And Docsis3 4x4 channel bonding at the VERY least in your new purchases.
