RDIMMs especially designed for server applications and telecommunications

SMART Modular Technologies is the first company to manufacture 4GB PC2-4200 244-pin DDR2 Mini-Registered DIMMs (RDIMMs). These modules are designed using the latest CoolFlex and Dual Die Package (DDP) technologies.

SMART cites a DRAM module report made by market research firm iSuppli, stating that the worldwide 4GB DIMM shipments should reach 10.58 million units by the end of 2007. This represents an increase of 753% over 2006. SMART recommends their latest 4GB DDR2 Mini-DIMM modules as an efficient solution for a wide variety of storage, networking, telecom, and server applications.

"Their small size and socketing options make SMART Mini-DIMMs a practical and versatile memory solution in many storage, networking, telecom, and server applications."

The 4GB RDIMMs come in 512Mx72 configurations with the option of utilizing either a 4-rank module using SMART-built 1Gb (256Mx4) DDPs, or a 2-rank module using 256Mx4 BGA DDR2 SDRAMs. This option provides OEMs the flexibility to transition from the 4-rank 512Mb-based option to the 2-rank 1Gb-based option, allowing for an increased memory capacity.

The industry's first 4GB DDR2 Mini-RDIMM modules meet the RoHS specifications, being designed with the aid of the improved CoolFlex foldable PCB technology. CoolFlex allows for doubling the memory capacity with 36 DRAM placements on four sides. All 4GB DDR2 Mini-RDIMMs are designed with two registers and two Phase Locked Loops for reduced loading and improved signal integrity. SMART closely follows the JEDEC standard pin-out, but introduces an additional Error Correction Code functionality required by many types of data-sensitive applications. Mini-DIMMs support vertical, right-angled, or angled socket mounting in order to offer maximum design versatility.
