In small steps though..

If you're one of those people who bought Vista in the first 24 hours from the launch, you're probably running a very fast system equipped with SLI or Crossfire support. In this case, you probably found out pretty fast that Nvidia didn't offer SLI support for the new OS produced by Microsoft.

Sad one, isn't it? Especially if you're an Nvidia but also a Microsoft fan. While several beta implementations of SLI technology have been released for a while now, the GPU creator might roll out now the first official driver version with integrated SLI support.

"Some good news. Our Vista SLI driver is coming soon, very soon. With it comes a world of possibilities for extra performance scaling for DX10 and Vista. SLI has proved to be hugely popular, we have shipped over millions and millions of SLI GeForce GPU's and SLI enabled motherboards. For developers being able to double the graphics performance of your development system is enormously valuable. Todays SLI enabled GeForce 8800 is tomorrows mainstream graphics performance to target for your next PC game," claims one of Nvidia's bloggers on the developer section of their website.

As a matter of fact, this is not a news anymore, especially since SLI support has been enabled and in most cases it works properly. In most cases, that is because there are still a lot of games which don't work well with SLI technology enabled. And judging by the unofficial statements that can be found on Nvidia's blog section, the new drivers will also add support for the 7950GX2 card.

This particular dual-GPU model has worked flawlessly under Windows XP, but due to the fact that it uses a pseudo-SLI mode, it wasn't among the supported cards on Vista. Maybe that's not much of a loss for those who can't wait to play titles such as "Lost Planet" or "Company Of Heroes" since this card is DirectX 9.0c based but it's a pity to waste all that GPU power.
